Mega Makeup Gift Set - 50 items for $50
Filed Under Makeup Kits | Leave a Comment
One of my favorite things about this time of year is all of the great holiday makeup gift sets. Why do they call them gift sets? They know we buy them for ourselves, right? I guess some people may actually give them as gifts? Just teasing, but when we do buy them as gifts we buy two - one for ourselves and one for the recipient, or is it just me? Anyway, I was surfing around and found this awesome gift set from e.l.f. This one would make a great gift for my 14 year old, who has recently developed an interest in makeup. Interestingly it was right after she developed an interest in boys….
This set is a beauty lovers dream come true! It is called the $50 Grab Bag - it is 50 items for $50. The items include: 3 mascaras, 4 nail polishes, eye widener, tweezers, eye makeup remover pads, nail polish remover pads, mirror, 3 liquid eyeliners, 4 eyeshadows, 3 candy tins, 2 all over color sticks, 1 eyeliner pencil, 1 lip liner pencil, 2 new moisture lip gloss, 2 super glossy lip gloss, 2 plumping lip glaze, 2 hypershine lip gloss, 2 blushes, 3 powders, 2 concealers, 2 bronzers, total face brush, bronzing brush, eye shadow brush, concealer brush, and lip brush.
You can pick it up here - $50 Grab Bag

Avon Silver Sequin Makeup Bag

I admit that I am a sucker for makeup bags and this one is no exception! I received this bag a few days ago & recommend it highly if you like sparkles. It is all silver sequins, seems to be very well made and is big enough to hold a lot, but small enough to fit into most handbags. It would also make a cute small evening bag - and would be a great for the upcoming holidays or as a holiday gift.
It is 7″ L x 4 3/4″ H x 1 1/4″ D with a top zipper. The best news is that is from Avon and is currently available for only $2.99 with any $10 purchase. This is probably available for a limited time - so give your Avon rep a call, or order online with Free Shipping - (The Avon Site) Silver Flash Cosmetic Case OR Shop through my eRepresentative site - Use Code REPFS for Free Shipping!

Mirenesse Secret Weapon Mascara
Filed Under Eye Makeup, Makeup Reviews | Leave a Comment
Mirenesse Mascara is made by Mirenesse Makeup - an Australian company whose products were sold by HSN.com in the past. Through their years on HSN, they developed quite a few devoted users. Now that their products are no longer available on HSN, they can be hard to find outside of Australia.
Mirenesse’s most popular product by far is their Secret Weapon Mascara because it is not oil-based like conventional mascara. Instead it forms a tiny tube that wraps itself around every lash making them thicker and longer without the need for those dreaded fibers. It is easily removed by applying warm water and gentle pressure - the tubes slide right off your lashes - No eye makeup remover needed. Removal is complete without any residue or lash root buildup, making it ideal for those with sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. (See Mirenesse Secret Weapon Mascara at CosmeticMall)
I have used Mirenesse Mascara in the past and while I was not blown away by the lengthening or thickening (I am hard to impress in that area) I was blown away by the little “tubes” and how great it stays put and how easy it is to remove. I used it as a top coat over nonwaterproof mascaras to keep my lashes perfectly set all day. I would absoutely recommend it for anyone with sensitive eyes, who needs waterproof that is easy to remove or anyone who has any problems with traditional mascara, including contact lens users.
The best selection outside of Australia is on eBay (wouldn’t you know it?) Here are the current listings:

philosophy Supernatural Concealer Review
Filed Under Eye Makeup, Makeup Reviews, Makeup Tips | Leave a Comment

I have been using Philosophy Supernatural Concealer
for well over a year and I am of the opinion that it is the best concealer on the planet. It is one of those few products that I start to get nervous if I am running low - I always keep an extra in my stash so that I won’t ever have to go without.
To me, the best thing about it is that it deposits opaque color that easily conceals without any texture at all - which means that it will conceal under-eye darkness without accentuating fine lines!
I use it in the Medium & I use the center color every day under my eyes. It totally conceals any darkness and also slightly brightens the undereye area. I use the color on the left (it has a slightly salmon-ly tint) to conceal any dark area on my face. The color on the right is a perfect match to my skin color and is great for a little coverage.
I held off buying this for a long time because of the price - $25 for concealer seems like a lot to me - but I am so glad that I finally tried it. Using it almost everyday one compact lasted almost a year, so it really turns out to be a good value.
The compact comes with a little brush, I don’t use it - I put it on with my finger. (Use your ring finger to apply under your eyes - it is your “weakest finger” and puts the least amount of pressure on your delicate under-eye tissue.)
This concealer won a Self Magazine award for best concealer. I never want to be without it and I recommend it - especially to women over 40 who want to conceal without accentualing fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used as an eyelid primer to help your eyemake up stay on longer. Because of the amazing texture that imparts opaque color with no texture, it is good for dry skin (doesn’t dry out), oily skin (doesn’t get greasy)

Signature Club A Nefertiti Golden Patina Bronzer Review
Filed Under Makeup Reviews | Leave a Comment
Signature Club A Nefertiti is called a Golden Patina - it is a Bronzer for people with fair to medium skin. I have been using this for years and it is one of my favorite makeup products.
First of all it is HUGE - at least 4, maybe 5, inches across and it lasts forever - even with daily use.
Second it imparts a beautiful perfect color - it just slightly enhances your skin tone - no orange, no “fake tan” - it isn’t even obvious that you have used it - just a touch of color - a healthy glow.
The main reason I use it everyday is that I discovered that this product completely covers the fact that I have a very uneven skin tone. My years of sunworshipping in my teens had left me with hyperpigmentation across my cheeks. Although it has faded considerably with meticulous skin care (See Treating Hyperpigmanetaion and Melasma), it is still there and I have tried every method I can think of to conceal it.
Because of the cool stripes of color, it has many other uses. I use the darker browns for eyeshadow - I also use them occasionally to contour my face and I have used the lightest to highlight my eye are before. I use it daily over my foundation and then follow with a little blush and I love the natural, healthy look I get.
I noticed over on HSN that this is a customer pick with over 100 reviews - looks like I am not the only one in love with this one!

Tightlining
Filed Under Eye Makeup, Makeup Tips | 1 Comment
Tightlining, a technique once only used by hardcore makeup mavens, is becoming more and more of a beauty trend as more companies are producing products for tightlining. This picture is a great example of tightlining with an overall natural look.
What is Tightlining?
Tightlinig is an eye lining technique where eyeliner is applied into the lash line and in the area where the eyelid becomes the eye. The trick to a perfect tightline is to darken the lash line without getting liner in the ‘wetline” where the eye membrane starts.
The benefit of Tightlining is that it emphasizes the eyes without looking overly made up because it darkens the lash line. You can tightline on either the upper or lower lid or both and you can use eyeliner like you normally would along with your tightliner.
How to Tightline
To tightline the eye, apply the eyeliner right to the lash line. Many recommend even pushing it down into the line or even making little dots in between the lashes. You want to avoid the wetline - it can irritate your eye - if you get some on that area blot it off with a Q-tip. The 2 keys to getting a perfect tightline are practice and the right product. Because it is so close to the eye, you need a waterproof eyeliner. You can use a waterproof gel, liquid, powder or pencil. Here are some of the best eyeliners for tightlining:

Although I haven’t tried them all (yet), my favorite so far is Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner. I have the liner and the brush and have found it very easy to apply and it has good staying power. It is a VERY thick cream/gel. I have it in
the black, but want to try some other darker colors as well. If you tightline with a gel, cream, liquid or dry product, the correct brush is essential. Some people use a flat brush. I love the Smashbox brush because it is tiny and it is bent to make it easier to use. The Smashbox items are below - or you can usually find a deal on eBay.
Other gel waterproof eyeliners that consistently get good reviews are
Stila Smudge Pots, MAC Fluidline and Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner Ink.

One new product that I am definitely going to try is Physicians Formula Eye Definer Felt-Tip Eye Marker
(yes a Sharpie for your eyes!)
I haven’t had much success with using eyeliner pencils for tightlining - but I have read some recommendations for Avon Waterproof Glimmersticks, Revlon Color-Stay, Stila Onyx Kajal and MAC Smolder Kohl.

What products do you use to tightline? Got any tips? Please leave your reviews and tips in the comments below! Thanks!

Using White Eyeliner to Highlight the Eyes
Filed Under Eye Makeup, Makeup Tips | 1 Comment
As I posted before (White Eyeliner Pencils), I have become a big fan of using a white eyeliner to brighten my eye area. It is one product that I will not go without because it makes such a difference - which I didn’t realize until I forgot to use it one day - I looked tired and my eyes looked dark.
I got started using eye highlighting products when I purchased Laura Geller Wonder Wand Eye Brightener Powder over a year ago. I really like this product and liked what it did for my eye area. This I tried a white eyeliner pencil by Avon. I like it just as well and felt it was much easier to use. Well now Avon has discontinued their white pencil so I am on the hunt for a new one. (I can take my time because I stocked up on eBay.)
(It is really easy to use - before any other eye makeup, apply under the eye and around the inner corner of the eye. Smudge it in so you don’t have a white stripe and follow with your normal eye liner and mascara.)
So today I am looking around to see what white eyeliners are out there. There are a lot of companies with white eyeliner pencils now - from drugstore to upper scale. I guess I’ll start trying them out. If you have a favorite or want to review a white eyeliner pencil or eye highlighting product, please do so in the comments section below - Thanks!
It looks like I have plenty to choose from - Here are the White Eyeliner Pencils I found:
